I don’t think that is silicon, it looks like a printed circuit on some kind of water soluble polymer. Maybe some kind of gelatin or similar? I may be wrong, though. Just doesn’t look or behave like silicon.

they’re fairly new so they’re not quite yet out there. they’re only a couple nanometers of silicon in thickness so they’ll dissolve within a couple minutes - not sure myself why that would make them widely useful but science knows no bounds i guess.

That is some really incredibly nanoscale engineering then. It’s really weird to watch, but I agree with you: I can’t see a real application of this particular property. But I suppose that’s why I’m not the one who made them.
